Join One Hundred Women

Tue Oct 20 2015

Funding from women is being sought for a documentary about women refugees from different parts of Africa. The film covers the traumatic events that forced them to flee their home countries and become refugees, as well as giving us a deep insight into their extraordinary resilience and courage, which has enabled them to build productive new lives in Australia. For each of them in their own way, it is a journey from trauma and pain, to strength and empowerment, as they find their own voice. This is a vital story told in an artful way, that will give other women victims of violence and abuse, inspiration and hope.

As women lawyers, we all are concerned about justice. If you are interested in the arts, women's issues, refugees' experiences and challenges, human rights issues and/or the importance of therapy for PTSD, you will want to donate to this extraordinary documentary. The director of the documentary is Ros Horin, the acclaimed director, playwright and former artistic director of the Griffin Theatre. Ros Horin's idea as the film-maker is to get 100 women to put $500 or more in each to make a film about African women refugees with whom she worked, first in drama therapy, then in the play based on their lives (The Baulkham Hills African Ladies Troupe which played at Parramatta Riverside, Belvoir and the Opera House to great reviews). All donations are tax deductible. Donations can be made by clicking here.
