Encouraging Appropriate Early Guilty Pleas

Tue Jul 28 2015

Yesterday's InBrief cited statistics from the NSW Law Reform Commission's Report No. 141, Encouraging Appropriate Early Guilty Pleas, which indicated that delays in criminal cases before the District Court are worsening.

In 2013 the Bar Association made a submission to the LRC inquiry, arguing in favour of retaining the system of committals in the Local Court, among other things. However, the commission's final report has recommended replacing the committals system.

Other Bar Association submissions are available from the association's website.
