Wed Sep 11 2019
Call for volunteers

The Indigenous Barristers Trust is seeking volunteer barristers to assist with the annual Mooting Competition of Australia's First Peoples for First Nations law students at NSW universities, providing an opportunity for them to develop and showcase their advocacy skills in an inclusive and welcoming environment.

Interested barristers will act as mentors to participating students over a ten day period between Monday, 23 September to Thursday, 3 October 2019.

We are looking for barristers to assist in the preparation of written submissions (due 30 September) as well as offer advice on advocacy skills. Contact with the students may be in person, or by phone and email. Please note that some of the students may be in their first or second year of law.

The preliminary rounds will be held on Tuesday, 1 October.

The final and awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, 1 October at Gilbert + Tobin, Barangaroo.

If you are interested in assisting please email Sian McGee (s.mcgee@mauricebyers.com) by Friday, 13 September. Sian will let you know by Monday 16 September whether you have been allocated a team.
