Mooting

Western Sydney University Law School runs the annual Kirby Cup Mooting Competition for Year 9, 10 and 11 legal studies students, and they have requested assistance from members of the New South Wales Bar who are willing to sit as judges. More information about the competition is available on this YouTube video.

This year's competition will take place on 28-29 October 2019 at the Parramatta South Campus, between 8.30am and 12.30pm. Judges are supplied with support, including notes on the moot question, as well as score sheets and adjudication instructions.

The competition provides high school students with a unique opportunity to learn about the legal system and the role of lawyers, as well as engage in higher order legal skills, such as written advocacy and developing oral arguments. Teams work together to consider and write arguments for both the appellant and respondent in a hypothetical case, using contemporary practices and current legal principles.

If you wish to volunteer, please contact Ms Sandy Noakes at WSU: S.Noakes@westernsydney.edu.au

Participation in mooting is an initiative of the Wellbeing Committee.
