Legal Aid NSW Indictable Criminal Law Barrister Panel – Applications due by 31 May 2019

Thu May 02 2019

Legal Aid NSW has established an Indictable Criminal Law Barrister Panel. The Panel has been reopened for applications by new applicants. All applications for appointment to the panel must be submitted through the Panels Application Website by 31 May 2019.

The Panel is for suitably experienced barristers who may be briefed in legally aided non-complex indictable criminal law matters (i.e. strictly indictable matters or matters where an election is made) in the following jurisdictions:

  • Local Court Committals
  • District Court Sentences
  • District Court Trials

The panel is open to junior counsel only. Senior Counsel do not need to apply. The aim of the panel is to promote continuity of representation by barristers briefed in indictable matters.

Indictable Criminal Law Panel solicitors (along with in-house legal aid solicitors) assigned legal aid grants for non-complex indictable criminal law matters are required to brief barristers appointed to the panel if a Public Defender is not available.

Information about the panel is available on the Indictable Criminal Law Barrister Panel web page, click here.

For any enquiries regarding the panel please email panels@legalaid.nsw.gov.au
