Changes to wills of people in same sex marriages

A Bill to make changes to the Succession Act 2006 to clarify the effect of marriage or divorce on a will of a person whose marriage was recognised in Australia on 9 December 2017 (the date that the Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Act 2017 (Cth) commenced and same sex marriage was recognised in Australia) commenced on Wednesday 28 December.

The Bill is now available on the NSW Legislation website here.

The Department of Justice has released a factsheet (available here) to explain recent technical amendments to the Succession Act 2006.
