Bar FC tuned up for its upcoming Domain Soccer League finals campaign with an excellent performance against Division 4 table toppers Announcer FC today.

With Rohan de Meyrick heeding an emergency call up for a keeper, the team survived a couple of very close shaves early on to take the game by the scruff of the neck mid-way through a very even first half.

Jeh Coutinho, Anais D'Arville and Rico began to dominate the centre of the park, allowing the super quick/nimble front line of Morrison, Habib SC, Hartford Davis and de Michiel the opportunity to catch our opponents out on the break. De Michiel ran on to a lovely through ball from Coutinho and slotted home calmly to put Bar FC 1-0 up!

From then on we defended safely and surely, with Fredericks, Gyles SC, Canceri, Adhikary, Philips and debutante (and rugby convert) Harry Woods all helping out keeper de Meyrick to keep repeated Announcer FC attacks at bay.

Facing a strong breeze and a rejuvenated opposition in the second half, we successfully repelled a rampant Announcer FC for almost the whole half, with de Meyrick repeatedly coming off his line and saving the day. We couldn’t quite hang on for the win, however, as a scorching ultra long range effort almost from the half way line was a little too hot to handle and Announcer FC equalised with only 2 minutes to spare.

The final result was a fine 1-1 draw against the top team in our division – an excellent outcome following a great team performance. Bar FC played some very good football today.

An extra special mention and thank you should be made of Nicole Compton’s efforts as stand in manager, and to de Meyrick for agreeing to play in goals!
