With Sir Alex away, and Bar FC keen to further our progression up the competition ladder, we were up against the leaders of the competition, Announcer FC. It was also an exceptionally windy afternoon which made for a challenging game. But when the going gets tough, Bar FC get going.

The Bar FC team were lifted by the return of Patchaldinho and we soon saw the domination up front of Bar FC in the first half. Di Michael connected with a good header attempt at goal which just missed caressing the net. Morrison and Hartford-Davis led a number of break out attempts up front to attack the Announcer FC back line. The mid field worked well with D’Arville centring the midfield well. In the last thirty seconds of the first half, calamity struck when Announcer FC kicking a very lucky goal from relatively far out, putting the Bar 1-0 down at half time.

In the second half, Bar FC scored a great goal by Anthony Canceri from a pass from Di Michael. Di Michael also was unlucky with another goal shot opportunity. But it was largely BAR FC on defence in the second half, with captain Simon Philips as sweeper keeping a great defensive line in place. Once again, Larish showed his great field positioning and accurate kicking to protect the rear flank. Griscti on the midfield wing was noticeable as constantly being in the thick of things, as were Monteith and Hartford-Davis.

Special mention to Harris in goals (reminiscent of the performance of the legendary goalkeepers, Michel Preud'homme), who made many excellent saves that appeared certain to be going in.

Injury struck half way through the 2nd half with Morrison (who was in all the action up front) twisting his ankle and being assisted off (our new Bar FC first aid kit is getting some use …). Alas, despite one of our best performances this year, Announcer FC were able to slip in a second goal, with the final score being 2-1 against Bar FC. The team yesterday was:

  • Simon Philips (c)
  • Patch
  • Di Michael
  • Monteith
  • Harris (GK)
  • Anthony Canceri
  • Swami
  • Hogan-Doran
  • D'Arville
  • Hartford-Davis
  • Morrison
  • Chadd
  • Larish
  • Griscti
  • Compton

Bar FC’s next outing is against Sydney Business School FC at 1.15 p.m. Thursday 7 June 2018 in the Domain. All supporters welcome.
