Legislation to note: costs for legal services in motor accident matters

The Motor Accidents Authority has gazetted the Motor Accidents Compensation Amendment (Costs and Fees) Regulation 2010. The object of this Regulation is to amend the Motor Accidents Compensation Regulation 2005 to increase the maximum costs for legal services provided by legal practitioners to claimants or to insurers in motor accident matters. The increases are generally in line with movements in the Consumer Price Index.The MAA is conducting a general review of the costs regulations with the intention of a more detailed revision of the costs regulations in September, 2010.
