Fitness to plead: mental disability and our criminal justice system

Sat Mar 17 2007

Join moderator Julie McCrossin and a panel of experts for a lively yet informative discussion regarding people with a mental disability who commit criminal offences. The 2007 Law Week hypothetical will discuss the current response of our criminal justice, health and community services.

Julie will guide the panel and the audience through the often complex decisions confronting police, lawyers, magistrates and doctors alike. What is the appropriate role for our legal system? Can it provide an effective, but compassionate response that protects the community and assists people with mental disabilities?
