Positions vacant: Crown Prosecutors

$281,790 per annum plus Conveyance Allowance of $16,990 per annum

The Attorney General is seeking applications from qualified persons for appointment as Crown Prosecutors under the Crown Prosecutors Act 1986 for a fixed term of up to seven years that may be renewed, following an initial twelve-month probationary period.

Crown Prosecutors are barristers who conduct and appear as counsel in proceedings on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions. The positions could be based at various locations around the State, with the successful applicants being required to attend regional courts as directed. Selection criteria: Applicants must be Australian lawyers and must have experience as counsel in jury trials and/or appellate advocacy in criminal matters; extensive knowledge of NSW criminal laws, the rules of evidence and relevant Prosecution Guidelines and legal principles applicable to Crown Prosecutors and the relevant Rules of the NSW Bar Association. Applicants must outline their experience in conducting complex jury trials. Successful solicitor applicants who have not completed the Bar Reading Course will be required to do so within 12 months of taking up the role of Crown Prosecutor.
