Crown rates for junior and senior counsel

As a result of negotiations between the Bar Association and Attorney General Gabrielle Upton, the Attorney General's Rates for junior and senior counsel will be increased by 11.5% based on the CPI over the last five years, effective 1 August 2016.

The new rates will be: junior counsel - $280 per hour with a daily maximum of $2,100 plus GST; senior counsel - $460 per hour with a daily maximum of $4,600 plus GST. These rates include all overheads, secretarial, legal and administrative assistance but not out of pocket disbursements.

The attorney has indicated that these rates will be reviewed on an annual basis, with the next review to be conducted before 30 June 2017.
