Between 5 February and 23 February 2018, Indigenous law students, Kate Sinclair, Tyrone Kelly and Ryan Barratt participated in the inaugural NSW Bar Indigenous Law Students’ Clerkship Program. The Program is a joint initiative of the Federal Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the NSW Bar Association, with the support of the NSW Judicial Commission. For the duration of the Program, each clerk had the opportunity to spend time with members of the NSW Bar, the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of New South Wales where they completed research tasks, observed barristers work and attended court.

On behalf of the Bar, the President Arthur Moses SC thanks Lisa-Claire Hutchinson and Lester Fernandez of Forbes Chambers who worked jointly with The Hon. Justice Jagot of the Federal Court of Australia and The Hon. Justice McCallum of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in setting up the program and ensuring its success. The President also thanks members of the Bar and Bench who hosted the students during their internship program as well as Greg Tolhurst and Ting Lim of the Association for assisting.

The Hon. Justice Allsop AO, Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Australia, presented the clerks on Wednesday 21 February 2018 with Certificates of Achievement, on behalf of the Federal Court of Australia, Supreme Court of New South Wales and the NSW Bar Association.
