Lawski races

Wed Aug 05 2015

The New South Wales Bar was represented in the 2015 Lawski races in Thredbo on Saturday, 1 August 2015. A few barristers skied individually. Sixth floor Wentworth Selborne entered two teams, one of which included David Robertson of New Chambers (who placed 41st). Anna Lochhead (research assistant) won the ladies section, Todd Alexis SC placed 2nd in the snowboard section and John Marshall SC placed 12th overall. The race was dominated by the outstanding performance of Frank Bannon (Clayton Utz, younger brother of Tony Bannon SC).

Frank cascaded down the course and catapulted himself at the finish line. The result was a lifetime best performance, a spread eagle splattered slide over the line, broken glasses, a facial cut and a blood stained shirt; all of which was repaired (with what looked like duct tape) in time for the second run. Frank finished 4th overall, was the fastest person over 50 (winning the "Over-The-Hill" prize) and was the central reason for the Clayton Utz team victory.
