Legal Histories of the British Empire Conference

Tue Dec 20 2011

The First International Conference on the Legal Histories of the British Empire will be held in Singapore from July 5-7, 2012. The Faculty of Law at the National University of Singapore is the local host. The growth of interest in colonial, and by extension imperial, legal history has occurred during a period when there has been a discernible renewal of interest among historians in cultural, political and economic histories of empire. Too often this general history of empire has ignored or downplayed legal developments within the imperial system. This and other factors point to the value ofholding an International Conference on the Legal Histories of the British Empire.
