Membership of 2012 Bar Association committees

Fri Dec 16 2011

In previous years committee appointments have been made by reference to the calendar year. In order to promote consistency with the Bar Association's statutory reporting period, applications for committee membership will be sought in March 2012, with a view to formalising the membership of the association's committees by the end of June 2012.

In addition to promoting consistency with the Bar Association's reporting obligations, it is anticipated that the proposed changes will be more convenient to members, many of whom are away from chambers during December/January, when committee applications have traditionally been sought.

It is anticipated that the association's committees will continue operation in their current form until the new committees have been officially promulgated. Existing appointments to various working parties and representatives for the Bar Association will continue unless and until the president determines otherwise. If any member does not wish to remain on a committee until June 2012, please do not hesitate to contact the association representative for that committee, or Senior Policy Lawyer Megan Black on 9229 1739 or at mblack@nswbar.asn.au .

The procedure for committee application and appointment otherwise remains unchanged.
