Judicial resources the key to solving criminal trial delays

The Bar Association's call for the appointment of additional District Court judges to address chronic delays in the disposal of criminal trials has been reported in today's Australasian Lawyer. President Jane Needham SC said that although measures such as encouraging early guilty pleas may have some utility, "it is clear to the association that the delays can only be addressed by structural change including additional judicial resources."
