This year’s Sydney Peace Prize is going to the MeToo movement for ‘empowering survivors of sexual harassment and violence and elevating their voices; for championing truth and justice; for highlighting the breadth and impact of sexual violence worldwide; and for launching a demand for change that is sweeping the world’.

Tarana Burke will be in Sydney to accept the prize on behalf of the movement and will be joined by Tracey Spicer who has been so pivotal in calling for personal MeToo accounts in Australia.

Both Tarana and Tracey will be speaking and answering questions for a week between 11 and 19 November in more than 15 separate events in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. We are hoping that these events will create an opportunity to bring individuals and organisations together to get as many people as possible talking and debating about MeToo and what needs to be done to change systemic sexism.

Indigenous woman Antoinette Braybrook from Djirra in Melbourne will be part of the panel in the Sydney Town Hall (our preeminent event). There will be two specific roundtables for NGOs – one in Melbourne (just for indigenous groups) and one in Sydney (more wide-ranging). These are being organised by NGO partners.

The first is the lecture and prize giving at the Sydney Town Hall on 14 November Sydney. Tickets are available here.

The second is the peace prize gala dinner at the University of Sydney on 15 November. We know it’s expensive but if you or any of your friends can afford it, we would love to see you there, and I will ensure you get VIP seats and get to meet Tarana Burke for a one-on-one. It is our only fundraising event throughout the year that’s why it is the price it is. Tickets are available here.

The third is a very special invitation to see a sneak peek at the ABC’s new 3-part series about MeToo called Silent No More, featuring Tracey Spicer. This is a free event at ABC studios in Sydney at 6pm on 11 November where one of the episodes will be shown, and Tarana Burke will do a Q&A afterwards.
