Experienced Barristers Program

Fri Sep 06 2019
Wellbeing

On Tuesday, 1 October 2019, the Bar Association will launch its Experienced Barrister Program, which is designed to cater for the interests of over 250 members of the association who are over the age of 70.

At the launch, certificates of service will be presented to several of our members who have each achieved more than 55 years of service to the New South Wales Bar.

Future events will include regular monthly lunches with guest speakers, and other functions, to be organized by a Steering Committee, currently comprising Robert Stitt QC, John Maconachie QC and Paul Daley AM.

This initiative of the Wellbeing Committee was approved by the Bar Council in August, and has been developed in consultation with the Diversity and Equality Committee.

Another aspect of the program for 2020 will be a system to assist universities with their mooting schedule by helping to find moot judges and advocacy coaches from among, but not limited to, experienced barristers. Paul Daley has also agreed to assist the program coordinators, Tim Castle of the Wellbeing Committee and Chris Winslow of the Bar Association, in developing this system.

Further details about the launch and program will be circulated shortly.
