Expressions of interest

The New South Wales Bar Association, through its Wellbeing Committee, is now seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from members who would like to be involved in an organised skilled volunteering program, focussed on capability building in select Pacific and Pacific Rim countries. The Bar Association believes an overseas skilled volunteering program, which utilises the knowledge and expertise of barristers, would provide an enriching and meaningful experience for members because it would deliver tangible benefits to host organisations and their countries.

The program has been designed through collaboration with Australian Business Volunteers (ABV). Australian Business Volunteers is a social enterprise that seeks to place skilled business people and professionals on short-term, capacity-building secondments in Papua New Guinea and elsewhere in the Pacific region. ABV was established in 1981 by the Australian Government to leverage Australian business expertise for sustainable community development and institutional capacity building. They have worked in the region for more than 35 years, delivering more than 5000 development projects.

If you have ever practised in, or have a deep familiarity with, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Nauru or other nations in the Asia Pacific, then this program will be of interest to you.

Please request an Expression of Interest from the coordinator of services and benefits, Chris Winslow, and return the completed form by 6 June 2019. If you know of a colleague in chambers or practising at the New South Wales Bar who would be similarly interested, please forward it to them.

For more information, contact the coordinator of services and benefits, Chris Winslow.
