Malaysian Bar calls for abolition of corporal punishment

The Malaysian Bar has issued a media release expressing opposition to corporal punishment after two women were fined and sentenced to six strokes of the cane for being in a same-sex relationship. The sentence was imposed by a Syaria court in Terengganu State, and the Malaysian Bar has called on their state and federal governments to commute the sentence and repeal all legislative provisions for corporal punishment.
