Public Defenders Criminal Law Conference, February 2014

The Public Defenders Annual Criminal Law Conference for 2014 will be held on the weekend of 22 and 23 February 2014, at Taronga Centre Harbourview Ballroom and Terrace at Taronga Zoo. Speakers will include the Hon Greg Smith SC MP, Lloyd Babb SC BA MA LLB, Prof Gordian Fulde, and David Dalton SC, among others. The conference is open to all criminal law practitioners and provides ten CPD points across four strands: ethics, personal and practice management, substantive law and advocacy.

Topics will include: Sentencing, Impact of drugs on brain function and the formation of intent, Stress at the Bar: Psychological Strategies for Building Resilience, The importance of the pre-trial application and the vagaries in the subsequent appeal process, Emergency medicine practice : head & other injuries seen in the Emergency Department, Recent High Court cases, The Ethics of Prosecuting, Advocacy : Sentencing, Psychiatric Defences in the Criminal Law and Sexual Assault Communications Privilege (Div 2, Part 5 Criminal Procedure Act).

The registration fee of $440 includes lunch. An early-bird fee of $395 is available until Friday, 6 December 2013. Online registration is available here.
