Portrait of the Hon Keith Mason AC QC

Thu Jun 27 2013

The Bar Association has commissioned a portrait of The Hon Keith Mason AC QC to be donated to the New South Wales Court of Appeal for display in the area of the President’s Court. Keith Mason AC QC is a former president of the Court of Appeal of New South Wales, solicitor general of New South Wales and chair of the New South Wales Law Reform Commission.

The gift is a symbol of the great esteem in which Keith is held by the Bar in New South Wales.

The artist chosen is Jiawei Shen who painted the portrait of The Hon Tom Hughes AO QC, which hangs in the Bar Association Common Room.

Jiawei Shen is one of Australia’s leading portrait artists, known for the academic and literary qualities of his works. Recent portraits include former Melbourne Lord Mayor John So, the Hon Tom Hughes AO QC, the portrait of Crown Princess Mary of Denmark (2005) which hangs in the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra and the portrait of former Prime Minister John Howard which hangs in the Members’ Hall at Parliament House, Canberra. In 2006 he won the Sir John Sulman Prize. He was a finalist in the Archibald Prize in 2011 and 2012.

It is hoped to cover the full cost of the portrait by individual member donations.

The names of those who donated to the cost will be suitably acknowledged when the gift is made to the court.
