Seminar on the right to silence 11 February 2013, 5.15pm

Mon Jan 21 2013

On Monday 11 February, the Association is hosting a joint seminar with the Sydney Institute of Criminology on proposed changes to the right to silence in NSW. The NSW Government has foreshadowed legislation that will change the standard caution given to suspects held in police custody. This panel session will examine the impact of the proposed amendments on one of the fundamental tenets of our legal system - the right to silence - and the implications for accused, legal practitioners and the criminal justice system as a whole. Speakers will include the President, Phillip Boulten SC and Associate Professor David Hamer from the University of Sydney Law School. Admission is free, but registration is essential. Register now.
