Fri Nov 16 2012

We look forward to another busy week of CPD in the Bar Association Common Room. The following events have been scheduled:

Monday 19 November: Addressing the 'Impunity Gap": Accountabilility for Sri Lankan War Crimes. Presented by Mark Ierace SC and Claire Hammerton and chaired by Phillip Boulten SC. Hosted by the NSW Bar Association’s Human Rights Committee. Please click here for further details about the seminar.

The International Crimes Evidence Project (ICEP) aims to conduct an independent and impartial investigation into the mass atrocities that allegedly took place in the final stages of Sri Lanka's civil war. The investigation involves the gathering of testimonial, documentary and audio-visual evidence. The project has now reached a critical juncture in terms of its ongoing financial viability. In order to allow this important work to continue, PIAC is seeking financial support from the legal profession for the project, and has asked members of the bar to consider making a donation. Tax deductible donations can be made through PIAC's website at:http://www.piac.asn.au/donate-now/donations Please mention "ICEP" when you donate. Members who are interested in further information about the project can email ICEP at admin@icepgroup.com.

Tuesday 20 November: The Legal History Discussion Group will meet to hear from James Watson and Justin Gleeson SC on Sydney Law School’s new Legal History Course and their new book of essays on Australian Legal History. The Discussion Group meeting will commence at 5.30.
