Law Council calls for bipartisan commitment to constitutional recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples

The Law Council of Australia has welcomed the Commonwealth Government's decision to introduce an Act of Recognition to acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, but has also said that a firm, bipartisan commitment to hold a referendum to amend the Constitution to provide such recognition should remain a priority.
