Expressions of interest in new chambers

Thu Jun 28 2012

Final expressions of interest are sought for new chambers (yet to be named) in the Colonial Centre, 52 Martin Place (above Channel Seven) by cob Friday, 6 July 2012. Heads of Agreement are about to be signed, with a lease to follow within a few weeks. The proposed floor includes a number of senior barristers and the intention is to achieve a collegiate floor consisting of barristers of all levels of experience.

A premium quality fit-out of all barristers' rooms (shelving, conference tables in larger rooms, slab-to-slab soundproofing etc) and common areas (including boardroom, full sized kitchen and shower) will be fully funded from the negotiated tenant's incentive (based on a draft plan and consultants' estimates). A number of car parks are available in the building by separate arrangement between the lessor and member.

The lessor has substantially upgraded the floor (including air-conditioning and lighting) and will complete extensive renovations to the lobby, lifts and other common areas in September. Allowing for design, approvals and construction, opening (and commencement of payment of rent) is expected around December 2012 - January 2013.

Following reviews of expressions of interest by the senior members, membership will be determined shortly after Friday, 6 July 2012. Licences, shareholders' agreement etc will be executed by members within the following few weeks prior to execution of the lease. These Chambers will be a no key-money floor.

Please forward applications to Greg Curtin SC at curtin@sirjamesmartin.com. Applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.
