UNSW Law: Dispute Resolution Conference

How dispute resolution may develop in the future and what the ramifications of those developments may be is the subject of a two-day conference coming up at the University of NSW on 1 and 2 December 2011. The conference will address important practical questions such as the future role of the judge, matching dispute resolution processes with disputes, the provision of access to justice to multiple claimants through class actions, the role of lawyers in alternative dispute resolution processes, the future options for international dispute resolution and reform of civil procedure through international comparisons.

Among more than 20 speakers, the conference will hear from:

  • Federal Attorney-General Robert McClelland;
  • Lord Justice Jackson of the UK Court of Appeal;
  • Chief Justice Bathust of the Supreme Court of NSW;
  • The Hon Justice Anna Katzmann, Federal Court of Australia;
  • The Hon Justice Arthur Emmett, Federal Court of Australia;
  • The Hon Justice John Basten, Court of Appeal, NSW;
  • The Hon Acting Justice Ronald Sackville AO, Court of Appeal, NSW; and
  • The Hon Justice Peter McClellan AM, Supreme Court of NSW.
