Portrait of Sir Kenneth Jacobs

Mon Jul 25 2011

Earlier this year the Bar Association commissioned a portrait of Sir Kenneth Jacobs. Sir Kenneth Jacobs is an honorary life member of the New South Wales Bar Association. He is a former president of the Court of Appeal and justice of the High Court of Australia. Members are invited to attend the unveiling ceremony for the portrait which is to be held in the Bar Association Common Roomtoday at 5pm. Speakers include The Hon Sir Anthony Mason AC KBE, The Hon Thomas Hughes AO QC and Mr Cal Callaway QC.

The portrait is to be donated to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and displayed in the President’s Court on Level 12 of the Law Courts Building. The gift is a symbol of the great esteem and affection in which His Honour is held by the profession, especially here in New South Wales.

The artist is Ralph Heimans, a well-known Australian portrait artist who painted the portrait of the Hon Justice Michael Kirby AC CMG that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra. He has also painted a portrait of Chief Justice Christopher Langworth which hangs in the NSW Compensation Court and a portrait of Crown Princess Mary of Denmark displayed at the Royal National Portrait Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen.

A number of members of the Bar Association contributed towards the cost of the portrait.
