Thu Oct 15 2009

On Sunday 9 May at 10.10pm the ABC TV programme Compass will show the Re-Trial of Galileo, which was held on 26 October 2009 at the University of New South Wales. As part of the International Year of Astronomy (IYA) and the 400th anniversary of Galileo's use of the telescope the School of History and Philosophy of Science at UNSW recreated the Inquisition in 1633, which condemned Galileo as a heretic for his defence of Copernicanism. Anna Katzmann SC (as she was then) appeared for the prosecution, while Julian Burnside AO QC appeared for the defence.
