LCA submission on Commonwealth serious and organised crime legislation

The Law Council of Australia has released its submission to the inquiry by the Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs into the provisions of the Crimes Legislation Amendment (Serious and Organised Crime) Bill 2009 (Cth). The Law Council has raised a number of concerns, in particular, the introduction of "unexplained wealth" provisions, which place the onus on a person to demonstrate that his or her wealth was lawfully acquired.
