Law reform and public affairs

The Premier has today announced the introduction of a new Compulsory Third Party scheme with changes to benefits structures and cuts in premiums. A Bill will be introduced this week, with the scheme to be in place in early 2018. The new Bill will be the subject of a presentation at this weekend’s Personal Injury Conference. It is not too late to sign up to attend.

The Bar Association has been working closely with the government to try and secure the best possible outcome for innocent accident victims with more serious injury. Contrary to reports in today’s Daily Telegraph, past and future economic loss will continue to be recoverable in full for innocent accident victims with more than a minor injury.

At Saturday's Conference Andrew Stone SC will speak on the contents of the Bill and the contribution of the Bar to ameliorating more draconian provisions from earlier proposals.
