James Renwick SC has been appointed as acting independent national security legislation monitor (INSLM) for an initial period of 12 months. A copy of the press release can be found here.

Under the INSLM Act, the INSLM is appointed on a part-time basis for a period not exceeding 3 years. The role of the INSLM is to review the operation, effectiveness and implications of Australia’s counter-terrorism and national security legislation on an ongoing basis.
