Bar FC completes its season with mixed fortunes at the Tri State Football Championship

Mon Sep 12 2016

On Saturday, 10 September 2016 Bar FC travelled north to Brisbane to compete in the 9th Annual Tri State Football Championship.

Under torrential skies, Bar FC managed to retain the Annual Vic – NSW Cup with a comfortable 6-0 win over our southern neighbours.

Immediately following this game and on a pitch resembling a swimming pool, Bar FC fought hard against a QLD side who had enjoyed the home team advantage of a one hour break between games. Bar FC were first to score after a deft finish from Di Michiel following a wonderful pass from Captain Philips in the deep. Unfortunately, the score was leveled a few minutes later when an over enthusiastic challenge inside the box resulted in a penalty.

Both sides worked hard in the second half and Harris was excellent in goals to keep out the raiding Queenslanders. With chances at both ends, Queensland managed to put one in the back of the net to win the game 2-1 and take home the silverware.

Manager Stanton was heard to say that the effort by all players was second to none. The tournament was conducted with much respect and friendship by all concerned. Lo Surdo SC also officiated tirelessly for three straight hours in at times monsoonal like conditions. Whist no doubt some might differ, he did not get a call wrong all day. Thanks also to Justice Lindsay who travelled north to support the team.

All in all a great tournament and a fitting end to Bar FC’s season.
