Bar FC top of the Domain Soccer League table

Thu Jun 16 2016

Bar FC went to the top of the table with a gritty and determined 2-1 win over Sydney Business School today. Whilst we were often beaten by pace and youth, Captain Simon Phillips marshalled the defence to frustrate the opposition. Our first goal followed some excellent pressure with Compton on the far right hitting a perfectly weighted cross into the box, only for the shot from Bedrossian to go wide. No doubt inspired by the Matildas' recent play against the NZ Ferns, Compton followed immediately with a run into the box where she managed to finish a similar cross from Hartford Davis and scored her maiden goal to give Bar FC the lead. SBS hit back shortly after, resulting in the scores being levelled 1-1.

It was great to see both Bedrossian, Maghami and di Michiel working tirelessly across the park richly rewarded by a sublime finish from Bedrossian. Phillips could then be heard suggesting that Bar FC stack the backline and “park the bus” however a demarcation dispute between Manager Stanton and Phillips was averted by Stanton permitting Bedrossian to fall back to the midfield. A satisfactory compromise that ensured the lead was retained unit the final whistle.

A great game by all. The team comprised of the following:

  • Nicole Compton
  • Tim Kane
  • Richard Di Michiel
  • Ivan Griscti
  • Angus Lang
  • Vahan Bedrossian
  • Tim Hackett
  • John Harris
  • Simon Phillips (c)
  • Faraz Maghami
  • Glen Fredericks
  • Matt Vickers
  • Sebastian Hartford Davis
  • Geoff O'Shea

Our next game (weather permitting) is Monday 20 June 2016 at 1.15 p.m. on top of the Domain Car Park. All supporters and hecklers are welcome.”
