Increases to attorney general's rates for legal representation

Attorney General Mark Speakman SC has written to President Arthur Moses SC to advise that the attorney's rates for junior and senior counsel have increased by 1.9% (based on the CPI), effective 1 August 2017. The following rates will apply:

  • Solicitor: $285 per hour with a daily maximum of $2850 plus GST
  • Junior counsel: $285 per hour with a daily maximum of $2140 plus GST
  • Senior counsel: $470 per hour with a daily maximum of $4,700 plus GST

These rates include all overheads, secretarial, legal and administrative assistance but not out of pocket disbursements.

The next review will be conducted after the end of the 2017-18 financial year.
