2019 Personal Injury/Common Law Conference

Registrations are OPEN for the 2019 Personal Injury and Common Law Conference, which will be held at the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park on Saturday 16 March.

The conference offers 5 CPD points.

The conference runs from 9:00am to 3.00pm. Morning tea and a stand-up buffet lunch will be provided. For more details about the conference and the costs involved please click here.

Registrations are open to NSW barristers that currently hold a practising certificate and places in the conference are strictly limited. Bar Association Library

The NSW Bar Association library will be closed from 21 December 2018 and will reopen on 21 January 2018 between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm. Normal library opening hours will resume on 29 January 2018.

ABA Silks Ceremony and Dinner

The Australian Bar Association will hold its annual dinner on the night of the new silks taking their bows in the High Court. The dinner will be held in the Great Hall of the High Court in Canberra on Monday, 4 February 2019 at 7.00pm for 7.30pm. All judges and barristers, not just the new silks, and their partners are invited to attend. Dress for the evening is black tie and the cost for the dinner is $400 per person (including GST). Members of the judiciary and friends of counsel who wish to attend the dinner should complete an RSVP together with payment, by Friday 11 January 2018.

High Court of Australia – Schedule of Fees and Sitting Start Times for 2019

The High Court of Australia have recently advised the Law Council of Australia of the following change in start times for 2019.

Commencement of the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme

The Law Council of Australia have advised that the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme (the scheme) commenced on 10 December 2018. From this date, potential registrants will need to complete a registration form on the scheme's website and supply certain information and documents.

Vale Robert Bellamy (1964-2018)

Robert Ian Bellamy, admitted to the NSW Bar in 1995 and member of 11 St James Hall, tragically deceased on 23rd December 2018.

A service to honour and celebrate his life will be held by his beloved partner Dr Lauren Taylor and the Bellamy family on Monday 14th January 2019 at the Art Gallery of NSW. Please arrive at 5.30pm for 6pm Memorial Service commencement,to be held in the Chiswick function room, followed by refreshments in the Chiswick restaurant.
